About the Artist
The child of an artist/educator and a carpenter, Lauren has always been drawn to the physical world and its sensory impact on three-dimensional perception. Light, material, weight, sound, and smell shape her work, merging as environmental factors that inform her creative process.
A passion for wearability and self-expression led Lauren to earn her BFA and pursue a decade-long career as a fashion designer. However, the digital nature of corporate apparel design eventually drew her back to metalworking, a craft she has nurtured since adolescence. In 2016 she began setting up her home studio and expanding her practice through taking local classes in Berkeley & San Francisco, and eventually apprenticing for local goldsmiths. Now based in Oakland, CA, she creates each piece from conception to completion—starting with wax carving and using the ancient lost wax casting technique, as well as hand fabrication and finishing, all in her studio. Her work is guided by an intentional process and a commitment to traceability, honoring craftsmanship and timeless design.
Where Art Meets Adornment
The influence of light on form is a central consideration in Lauren’s work, often inspired by the timeless beauty of the ocean and the greatest of antiquities. She merges the substantiality of mass with nuanced form to evoke both power and allure. As individuals curate pieces that resonate with them personally, her jewelry becomes more than just an object; it becomes an extension of the wearer, imbued with spirit and memory.
Rings, being so within view of one's experience, often serve as the vantage point from which a collection takes shape. As they are worn—viewed in the context of soil, sand, water, or entwined with the hand of a loved one—memories and associations accumulate, creating a unique patina that deepens with time. Ideally, this layering process is generational, giving each piece a meaningful, irreplaceable history.
